With this 100% ground based program (no riding), participants will actively work on many areas of life that often cause stress. Relationship issues, school challenges, tragedy, trauma or adversity. When people can effectively deal with stress they are more confident and resilient. When youth are resilient, they are braver, more curious, more adaptable and more able to extend their reach into the world. This group work is very powerful, fun, and further contributes to social intelligence. The presence of the horses and the content of material presented seem to bring about and deepen the strengths of the emotionally healthy and soothe and heal the needs of those with emotional wounds or scars. Each week will have a different focus;

This will be a beautiful time to relax with the horses and others in the pasture. The horses will be free to graze among us in the large pasture while we sit and watch. No horse experience? No problem! There is no riding involved. Because horses live entirely in the present, they are living study of mindfulness. Their ability to live in the moment allows them to pick up on our subtle body language cues and emotions. Horses provide unbiased feedback which gives us a chance to see ourselves better as we strive to better ourselves. Our ranch is nestled 1/2 mile off the road in the middle of a pine and hardwood forest. It’s very private and boasts amazing bird song and Michigan wildlife. We hope you will treat yourself to this experience.
Join us in the presence of horses to practice yoga poses. This session will help strengthen your joints and lengthen your muscles, while finding balance within. Please feel free to wear your comfy clothes (no need for special yoga apparel), closed toe shoes, yoga mat and beach towel or any props you would like. Please bring a mask to wear during our greeting and set up. Your yoga mat will be laid down atop the beach towel in a spot of your choosing in the pasture. The horses’ calm presence will enhance your yoga practice as you develop physical strength and body awareness, while pranayama (breathing techniques), help you to focus and still your mind, opening up more space for deeper understanding and intuition.
Who: All horse, nature and yoga lovers welcome! The wonderful Mary Alice Johnson, RYI 500, will be your yoga instructor.
What: This will be a calming experience with our horses in their peaceful setting. The yoga practice is 45 minutes long and will end with 30 minutes walking with the horses as they graze or enjoying the woodland trails that surround the pasture.
Where: On your beach towel and yoga mat in the pasture of Forest Meadow Ranch, 6870 Long Lake Road in Berrien Springs. We are the third and final property on the 1/2 mile drive.
When: Sundays, May 16, 23 and 30 at 1-2:30 pm. (If needed due to weather, cancelations will be posted the morning of the session on the Forest Meadow Ranch Instagram and Facebook pages). Please arrive early to sign our waiver, pay and find the perfect spot in the pasture.
